Overall I had a great experience at the brown lofts. The staff was a pleasure to interact with and were always in a great mood. This includes Nikki, who managed the property when we began living there, Jean, who manages it now, and the custodial and maintenance staff. Nikki was wonderful while she was there and i was worried about her replacement when she moved on from Brownlofts. Jean however has been so wonderful and I can tell she truly cares about the residents. Maintenance turn around was very impressive and most of the time issues were resolved in less than 24 hours. The complex is gorgeous and very high quality.

Not what was expected

The apartment at first glance is amazing. The style and interior of each apartment is top notch, but that's about as good as it gets. For such an amazing looking building the management is just awful. Steve Brown is so slow to fix your issues, that it seems like their tenants are a minimal priority. Maintenance fixed only half of the issues we wrote about. Laundry cards rarely work. I've been locked out of our apartment due to a card malfunction. The idea of a key card is great, however management just does not have it figured out and becomes more of a nuisance than an asset. They also show our apartment at least once a week without any stipulation. To top it all off: There have been two fire alarms at 3 am in just three months. Bottom line: Save yourself the trouble, and use the outrageous amount of money you would use for rent on a different nice place in Madison.

I'm glad you're pleased with the building itself and appreciate you sharing your experience. You're comments on the key cards and maintenance issues are on point and I won't make excuses, but I will share that we're upset with these situations as well and their resolution is a priority. The two fire alarms were legitimate alarms that were triggered by smoke, they were not tests or equipment failures. Apartment showings can be frequent, it depends on the time of year and if yours is the only apartment available in that style.
